The darbuka is one of the most popular Middle Eastern percussion instruments , even though it originally came from northern Africa. Despite the fact that the darbuka looks quite a bit like a djembe, it sure doesn't sound like one, and it's made of entirely different materials.

The 5 1/3-inch drumhead on this goblet drum is made of synthetic material, and provides a deep bass tone when you strike the middle (doom), and a sharp high tone with excellent sustain when you hit the edge (tak). The 9 1/4-inch deep shell is made of aluminium, which adds to this beautiful instrument's excellent resonance. Supplied with a tuning key.
